One Eagle is Enough!!!

The GW Eagles are a: fun & friendly, cross-town rivalry that Tunstall has had in sports for a long time. And there is only room for one Eagle on the Trojans schedule, because Franklin County certainly doesn't need to be on there!!! However, for the first and last time, Tunstall was forced into playing the FC eagles, because our athletic director feels it was a neccesary match.

I'm sure you can already tell that the game did not go over smoothly for the Trojans as we suffered a fairly bad loss, the score was 0-(more than 5 and less than 15, fill in the blank with whatever you feel is appropriate). We found out very quickly that Franklin Co. has a fast and vicious attack. The "other" Eagles can move the ball very well, as they weave in and out of defenders with little trouble. Tunstall did not lay down or roll over to these Franklin Counties, the Trojans fought proudly and never during the game did they give up, but always played consistent and with heart. We all know that no gameball has been given since the first game, vs. Halifax. However, everyone felt it to be very appropriate to acknowledge the great goal keeping and defense shown by our Junior Goal Keeper-Hannah B;who had a great game, she saw lots of attempts at goal by the "other" Eagles, and was able to defend many of them.

Trust your source, EagleHunter, when she says that the Trojans will have a successful District Season this year, once we begin to play our AA counterparts. Our district season begins next Friday(4/7) against DanRiver High School.
SOOOOO... Good Luck next week Trojans & keep playing that good ole' soccer!!!!!

Before Game Jitters

Usually I write only a brief before game paragraph and a more lengthy after game summary; but right now I am compelled to write more about the way I'm feeling.

This upcoming match versus Franklin County has gotten my nerves in a bind, because of our last game against Halifax- and the score that resulted. Perhaps I'm the only person feeling: unsure of myself and extremely nervous, but nonetheless I imagine every Tunstall teammember to be, not only hurting from our last loss, but also scared that our next game will end the same way.

New School, AAA Style

Monday...Monday...Monday..this Monday(3/27) at Franklin County High School, the Trojans will face a monster. A monster with big teeth, big eyes, big claws, and biggest and scariest of all---they have a soccer team. But nonetheless the Mighty Trojans will confront their enemy with courage and discipline, we will not be afraid or simply "back down" from our opponents. The Trojans will play good and aggressive soccer. By the way, the game begins at 7:00pm.

GO TROJANS!!!!!

No More Falling Rocks...comets!

When life sends you lemons you make lemonade, during the summer, but sometimes, during the winter, all you can do is make weird faces.

Last Wednesday(3/22) at approximately 5:30pm, the Lady Trojans of Tunstall faced the Halifax Comets, at a blustery match of soccer. The two teams had met before, one week earlier, and the outcome had been in the Comet's favor with a score of 0-5. This game, unfortunately yielded the same ending. The Trojans had first kickoff, as they managed to steadily work up an attack, but as the first 40 minutes progressed, Halifax soon began to score. By the end of the half Halifax led, 0-4.

After a very "open" discussion during halftime, the Trojans were able to go on the field with a revitalized offense, one ready to play and fight. The Comets had other plans, as the end of the game showed a scoreboard of Halifax-8 & Tunstall-0. The game may have not gone the way Tunstall planned, but that has never caused the Trojans' spirit to be defeated. The ladies always find a way to enjoy their games, their teammates, their coach, and most of all.....to enjoy playing a game that enables them to gain the most from their youth and make long-lasting memories..!

Halifax, Again Baby!!!!

Wooooo, Tunstall @ Halifax tomorrow night!!! The trojans will be able to face the same team and, hopefully, enjoy a much better score. The last time the 2 teams faced was Wed. March 15, and the score was 0-5, but this upcoming match will have a completely differant outcome!! The Trojans will arise vistorious, but truly as long as the score stays within 1 point, the Trojans will be very happy!!

Our keeper will keep better, our defense will defend better, our midfield will transition better, and our forwards will score better; even our bench will cheer better!! Because.....We Are The Trojans, The Mighty Mighty Trojans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GW and Tunstall____Round 1__!!!!

Well, if you all haven't already heard the game was all washed out, for Tunstall at least. Monday, March 20th, was an awful night, both in the weather forecast and also Tunstall's score against GW. The game began with Tunstall having the kickoff and GW's fast forwards soon controlling the attack. The Lady Eagles scored their first goal, of 4, after a run down the center of the field. Later a corner kick was able to score GW's second goal and this pattern continued as the Eagles scored again, on a down field run and then a corner kick. But all four goals were scored during the first half of the game, as Tunstall was able to find the right set-up to defend the goal and prevent any more damage to the score during the second half!! Overall, this was a good show of Tunstall's endurance and their struggle to play the best game possible, the conditions were rough and so were the Eagles, but Tunstall gave GW a huge "run-for-their-money".

The next day at practice neither the boys nor the girls teams were given a gameball. This, at least for the girls' match, was due to the fact that every player put forth amazing effort and Coach Parrish knows that both teams can at least score one goal against our "cross-town' rivals.

The Game of a Lifetime!!!

Two days away, 46 hours 43 minutes away from right now, awaits...the game of our lives. The game that every soccer fan within 50 miles will be watching, the Tunstall Trojans vs. The George Washington Eagles. This "cross-town" rivalry has lasted at least the last 50 years and no matter what the sport, the game is always intense and hard to turn away from. On Monday March 20th, Tunstall will face the Eagles and 90 minutes later, only one will arise victorious!!!

GW has an older soccer past than the Trojans and also the advantage of being a AAA team. But they have also lost to Bartlett Yancey, a team that the Trojans defeated twice last season. The Eagles are smooth and strong. But this Monday the Trojans just may have enough will-power and emotion to overcome the AAA powerhouse that nests inside the city limits.

It's a game that no one should miss !!!!
GO TROJANS<>KICK EAGLE ASS!!!

First Game, First Loss of the Season....

To comment on our game Wed. March 18th, against Halifax. The game began quickly as Tunstall was first to have possession and Halifax held control of the ball for most of the first half. The beginning 20 min., or so, went smoothly as Tunstall's defense worked well against the fast Halifax attackers. But as we approached, approx. the 25 min. mark, the tables began to turn against Tunstall. As Halifax scored all 4 goals within about 7 min. of each other. This awakening of Halifax's score was heart-breaking to an emotional Tunstall team. But throughout the rest of the half, Tunstall held strong and kept the score,0-4.

During halftime the group quickly discovered their weaknesses and what needed to be done next, with the help of Coach Parrish. So during the second half of the evening Tunstall had several attacks at the Halifax goal. With 2-3 corner kicks and well played throw-ins and field "runs". However the Comets of Halifax were able to score one last goal. The Trojans did not allow this to affect them, as they continued to play will all their strength and hearts.

The next day at practice defensive captain, Kristen W, was awarded the game ball, a symbolic gesture that is given to the player who showed the most heart and had a great game. Kristen then handed the ball to defensive/midfield player Haley D, who also had a good game and in the words of the defensive captain,"talked well and spoke when no one else would".

Tunstall High School Soccer History

Tunstall's soccer years began 5 years ago in 2002, the same year Brasil won its 5th World Cup. Soccer was, and still is, a young sport in the surrounding area, but both girls and boys teams stuck with the sprot and are still in action today. Tunstall is currently holding 14 girls and 22 boys on each team. The Trojans are a AA school in RegionIV, Virginia. The Ladys' 2006 season is starting out tough, playing 3 AAA teams. But we are improving rapidly. The girls coach this year, and every year of Tunstall's soccer history, is Mr. Marc Parrish. The girls captains are: senior, Brandie G and juniors, Kristen W & Rachael E.
